I wanted to update you all what's been happening since my rollover accident on September 23 of this year. As you already know, I blacked out at the wheel, rolled and totaled my vehicle, ended up in the emergency room with a concussion, bumps, bruises, cuts, and a temporarily gimped leg. Again, I was extremely lucky not to have been seriously injured (or worse) in this deal and I'm grateful for that.
There have been lots of medical appointments since the accident, a good deal of those with my cardiologist. After lots of testing there seems to be a slight problem with my ticker. The various charts, graphs, pokes, prods, and monitors seem to be telling a story, anyway. My heart Doc believes this may have been the cause of my blackout at the wheel and has upped the ante. Next week I head for the Heart Hospital of New Mexico for a fairly simple procedure that will tell the true tale.
Depending on what's what, there are three possible scenarios:
1) They find they can treat the issue with drugs.
2) They do a heart ablation (cauterization) of scarred/damaged areas.
3) I win the grand prize and get a Pacemaker put in.
Although nothing is life threatening in all this, if I don't take care of business now the problem could become serious down the road.
Biting the Bullet
So I'm biting the bullet and letting the heart Doc do his thing. I just want to get this crap over with because I've been stressing a lot over the past month. Not out of fear or worry, but simply because I'm just sick and tired of going from medical office to medical office, doctor to doctor, and trying to deal with the medical bureaucracy in general. After all these years of good heath, I'm finally finding out what a mess health care can be. A more disorganized, self-serving, and inefficient bunch would be hard to find unless you visited the White House, Congress, and the U.S. Senate.
All this said, I may not be posting for a few days after the procedure goes down. Once I'm through this little tunnel and emerge on the other side, I'll be right back at it giving you the info you need and deserve, and being the same cantankerous old hard ass I always have been!
You can count on that.
